Four years have elapsed since the desirable Turtle Beach Stealth 700/ 700 Max Gen 2 launched. Now, fans can marvel at the company’s newest gaming headset, the Stealth 700 Gen 3. The Max version is seemingly absent this time. However, the Gen 3 brings some smart improvements that may justify shelling out for the upgrade.
Turtle Beach Stealth 700 Gen 3: What’s new?
Aside from its sleeker appearance, the Stealth 700 Gen 3 enjoys many of its predecessor’s best build qualities. For example, the ear cups comprise a glasses-friendly hybrid leatherette and athletic weave fabric with memory foam padding. The primarily plastic structure uses steel reinforcement around the headband. The ear cups can be folded flat when not in use. They also house 60mm dual drivers, dedicated bass woofers and tweeters, and support spatial audio. The uni-directional, flip-to-mute microphone is relatively discreet and uses Turtle Beach’s AI Noise Reduction algorithm to reduce unwanted sounds.
Under the ear cups are a list of controls and assignable buttons to enhance your gaming experience. Chief among them are the new mappable wheel and mode button. These can be edited using Turtle Beach’s Swarm II companion app (PC, iOS, Android.) The mode button can select EQ presets, handle multimedia controls on PC, activate noise gate, and enable chat boost. Similarly, the mappable wheel can dial in your game/chat mix, variable mic monitoring (sidetone,) bass & treble boost levels, and noise gate. The Swarm II app hosts a 10-band custom EQ and five EQ presets. You can also adjust the microphone EQ, sensitivity, and noise gate parameters.
Turtle Beach’s new headset ships with two USB wireless transmitters, allowing seamless cross-play between your favorite console and PC. Like its predecessor, the Stealth 700 Gen 3 supports simultaneous 2.4GHz wireless and Bluetooth connectivity. The earcups house separate volume controls for each device. The latest iteration also upgraded to Bluetooth 5.2, which could bring LE Audio and Auracast.
Battery life is one of the biggest upgrades Turtle Beach has brought to the Stealth 700 Gen 3. In our testing, the Stealth 700 Gen 2 lasted 35 hours and 24 minutes when subjected to a constant output peaking at 75dB(SPL.) While we haven’t conducted similar tests yet, Turtle Beach claims the Stealth 700 Gen 3 lasts up to 80 hours on a single charge. The new model also supports fast charging, with a 15-minute charge profiting three hours of playtime.
