Sony PS4 3D audio-based Platinum Wireless Headset launches Jan. 12
Sony PlayStation 4 owners will soon have official high-end headphones to check out with support for 3D audio. The company announced this week that its Platinum Wireless Headset will launch on Jan. 12 for the price of $159.99.
The main feature of these headphones is the support of 3D audio for games, which is already a part of titles released for the PlayStation VR head set. 3D audio is supposed to simulate how sound comes from different directions and distances. Those effects will only work on the Platinum Wireless Headset PS4 games that support 3D audio. When the headphones are released, just one game, Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, will have that support. However, Sony adds that more games will add 3D audio in the near future, including MLB The Show 17, Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, and Days Gone with more to come. For those games that don’t support 3D audio, the sound experience will still feature 7.1 virtual surround sound.
In addition, the Platinum Wireless Headset will work with the compatible with PlayStation VR and mobile devices with its 3.5mm audio cable, and it will also use hidden noise-canceling microphones.
