I still can't get AirPods in my favorite color
As exciting as any tech company’s announcement event, you’ve likely learned to manage your expectations over the years. Even being cautiously optimistic can leave you disappointed that the latest release doesn’t quite have all the features or design updates you hoped for. After all, these events and announcements don’t happen every day, or every year for that matter.
It hurts just a little more when you know the company is capable of something but chooses not to. The new Apple AirPods 4 and AirPods 4 with ANC have arrived, offering an updated design for a better fit and some new tech. There are a few things to get excited about, but I couldn’t help but ask myself: Do they still just come in white? Really?
Don't tell me a pair of AirPods in a Matte Black finish wouldn't fly off the shelf.
It’s no surprise, I know, and yes, I’m talking about a first-world problem. But the AirPods Max received a host of new colorways with their USB-C refresh, so why not give the rest of your users an option?
Let’s go, Apple. I want to see the new AirPods 4 available in my favorite color, Northern Forest Green. And where is Nautical Blue Metallic? Sandstone Pink? Battleship Grey? Canary Yellow? Rose Gold? Even a slick, simple Matte Black would go with just about anything.
Of course, a pair of white AirPods is an iconic, unmistakable look, but it’s had its time. You no longer look different; you look like you have the same AirPods as everyone else. Let those who want to express themselves do so. No one will say no to a few color options, and not everyone wants to rely on or spend more money on an aftermarket case to personalize their daily drivers.
