You can also get a case for your AirPods Max that will do more to protect the headphones than the default case provided by Apple, $33 at Amazon.
Cleaning the Apple AirPods Max ear cups
Cleaning the Apple AirPods Max ear cushions isn’t as difficult as you might think. This is what we found works best:
- First, mix a teaspoon of liquid detergent with a cup of water.
- Remove the ear cushions from the headphones by pulling them off.
- Dip a soft cloth into the solution.
- Scrub the ear cushions for about a minute.

Replacing the Apple AirPods Max ear cushions
As a last resort, you can buy some replacement AirPods Max ear cushions directly from Apple. That said, a single set of ear cushions from Apple runs you the same price as some good wireless headphones, so you might be better off looking for a third party replacement.
