Apple refreshes the AirPods Max with USB-C and new colors
- Apple didn’t announce the AirPods Max 2, but the old model is seeing some updates.
- The AirPods Max now charge via USB-C instead of the Lightning port
- New colors include midnight, blue, purple, orange, and starlight
It’s been nearly four years since the Apple AirPods Max was released, and they have yet to see a second version, until now. Sort of. During today’s Apple event, the company revealed they are updating the AirPods Max with USB-C, ditching the proprietary Lightning port. The AirPods Pro 2 saw a similar switch from Lighting to USB-C last year, so this isn’t entirely surprising, especially given that the EU has required all new electronics sales to use USB-C by the end of the year.
Besides the change in charging port, the updated AirPods Max comes in several new coats of paint, including Black (Midnight), Blue, Purple, and Orange. They will be available starting on September 20th, and you can pre-order them today for $549, the same price as the previous model.
